Main Job Purpose:
The site SHE Manager has overall responsibility for managing all compliance and Safety, Health & Environment improvement activities to achieve excellence at the site level.
S/he is responsible for implementing the Unilever’s SHE strategy and improvement plans, supports the Home Care and TH & MCL SHE Manager in the deployment of Group SHE to achieve sustainable SHE excellence by reducing incidents, injuries, illnesses and environmental impact as measured in the core KPIs. S/he works with the site leaders and Supply chain team to understand the local SHE needs, to ensure compliance with the standards is maintained. Where geographical proximity, size and complexity permit, this role may cover more than one site.
As Site SHE Manager, s/he is responsible in ensuring Unilever’s Framework Standards (FWS) compliance in the site under his/her scope, managing the SHE Positive Assurance Reporting (PAR) process and coordinating/conducting SHE audits.
S/he attends the USHEC/CSHEC meetings, the cluster SHE forums, provides inputs and communicates performance and actions accordingly, and supports the the Home Care and TH & MCL SHE Manager in efforts related to the Community of Practice of SHE professionals.
Key Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the deployment of the global/cluster SHE strategy, policy and standards in the countries to achieve excellent sustainable results.
- Monitor sites legal compliance and ensure they meet all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national SHE legislation requirements and implement relevant procedures and policies.
- Manage the SHE teams responsible to deliver and maintain all SHE Policies, Procedure, Plan and Management System and ensure its implementation is effective and in compliance with Global Directives, Legal and Other requirements (i.e. ISO 45001 & 14001 standards). incl. interpretation of related local legislation & other requirements.
- Drive and ensure the completion of safety and environment risk assessments in the sites of scope and in developing/implementing appropriate controls
- Reduce the sites' environmental impact in the areas of COD, hazardous & non-hazardous waste, SOx & CO2 emissions and water & energy consumption
- Lead the UMS SHE Pillars and collaborate with ManEx and relevant teams.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Unilever Behavioural Safety Program (BeSafE) program and support deployment in the site
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Unilever PSM Program (if applicable to the site PS risks) and support deployment in the site and support the application of Unilever guidelines and procedures for Process Safety assessment.
- Influence senior management and drive safety and environmental leadership through line management.
- Work closely with Occupational Health personnel to identify and mitigate risks which may lead to occupational ill health
- Assist the Countries Leaders in developing and managing the internal crisis committees and safety committee; support site leaders in the countries/cluster in incident investigation and analysis
- Advise line management in all accident/incident investigations.
- Assist the Site Leaders in ensuring compliance with safe travel, training and reporting requirements
- Conduct trend analysis from incidents, near misses and safe behaviour observations and deep compliance audits.
- Develop and deploy internal SHE audits and inspection systems, participate in audits of other Unilever organizations as required.
- Determine training needs and facilitate in delivery of SHE training programs to build capabilities on site.
- Participate in the community of practice of SHE professionals to ensure sharing of best practice and effective communication to and from Group.
Professional Skills:
ESSENTIAL
- University degree in Science or Engineering, or equivalent majors
- Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities, and/or Registered Safety and Health with valid certificates
- Influencing skills and international business/cultural sensitivity.
- Good observation and auditing skills
PREFERRED
- Professional or Advanced degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or professional certification in SHE related field.
- Excellent knowledge of Unilever SHE standards.
Experience Required:
ESSENTIAL
- At least 5 years’ experience in a Safety, Health & Environmental roles in Manufacturing incl. significant achievements in safety
- Experience in Supply Chain operations, Manufacturing and/or Engineering
- Experience in a leadership capacity and proven track record in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Solid incident/accident and risk/hazard identification and investigation experience.
- Proven track record of analytical thinking and project management
PREFERRED
- 5-10 years Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or Supply Chain operations experience
- Appropriate functional/technical expertise
- Prior Unilever experience.
