Full time permanent position for Student Services Department Head. Duties to commence September 5, 2023.
As Department head, you are part of the school’s leadership team and will be committed to furthering the District goals for student success in an inclusive, safe and caring environment. You will be able to demonstrate a “students first” philosophy in previous experiences as a teacher.
Reporting to the school principal you will provide direction and support to teachers in the delivery of the curriculum in specific subject area(s) of expertise. As a part of the school leadership team you will assist in the development of annual staffing plans for schools, ensuring schools are programmed and scheduled appropriately to meet the needs of all students and facilitating school based collaboration related to service delivery. The successful candidate will provide curriculum advice to school administrators and collaborate with Regional and District staff in initiatives that foster student success. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating professional development for program initiatives while identifying and building on the strengths within their department.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and understanding of the outcomes and specific content expertise and teaching methodology in the subject area(s) taught within the department
Ability to lead and provide direction in a collaborative team environment and support the direction set forth by the District in consultation with the School Principal
Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of child development and knowledge of the diverse learning needs of all students
Demonstrated experiences providing instructional leadership to promote student learning and utilizing data and resources to strive for continuous improvement
Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor new and experienced teachers on effective and current instructional/assessment practices
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in the development and delivery of professional development for school and District initiatives
Ability to initiate and implement change in consultation with the School Principal
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment to ensure culturally relevant instruction and assessment for all students
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A B.Ed in a related subject area(s)
Minimum five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience
Demonstrated experience as a curriculum leader at the school, school District and/or provincial level

Coastal Labrador Supplement - For teachers residing in certain coastal communities only. The value of this supplement is $5,000 (prorated depending on start of position), payable in two installments (December and June). To be eligible for this supplement, teachers must be on a full-time continuing contract and must reside in the community for the duration of the contract period.
