Nemours is seeking a Anesthesia Assistant, FULL-TIME to join our Nemours Children's Specialty Care team in Jacksonville, Florida.At our three clinic locations in the Jacksonville area, Nemours is a leading provider of pediatric specialty care in north Florida with many of our pediatric specialists regularly recognized as the âBest Doctors in America®.â We offer comprehensive, family-centered care in more than 30 pediatric specialties. Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, administers anesthesia to patients as a qualified member of the anesthesia care team. Case assignment and oversight of the overall evaluation of the patient will be determined by an anesthesiologist. The anesthetist shall demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide anesthesia care appropriate to the neonatal, pediatric and adolescent population; documents appropriately in the electronic medical record.
Incumbent will participate in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Process Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve patient care and, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Hospital, Anesthesia and Perioperative Services Department
Job duties
- Adheres to standards of practice and code of conduct consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Nemours Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, Pain and Perioperative Medicine and of the Wolfson Childrenâs Hospital.
- Performs an individualized pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient to include review of consultations, history and physical, and relevant diagnostic studies; obtains informed consent for anesthesia; orders appropriate preoperative lab studies, NPO times and preoperative medications and fluids per protocol.
- Under the direction of an anesthesiologist, develops an anesthetic plan based on the patientâs physiological response and implements plan in the presence of an anesthesiologist.
- Applies appropriate noninvasive and invasive monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of the patientâs physical status throughout the perioperative experience.
- Administers and continuously monitors the effects of anesthetic medications, fluids and ventilator support.
- Facilitates emergence and recovery from anesthesia and provides handoff communication to receiving unit postoperatively (PACU, NICU, PICU, etc.)
- Assesses acute and chronic pain modalities individualized to patients in the operative area, pain clinic and on in-patient wards.
- Provides post-anesthesia evaluation and discharges patients from the post-anesthesia care area when appropriate.
- Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and medications using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
- Complies with all aspects of patient safety, infection control and quality care.
Job requirements
- Masters degree required.
- Specializes in Pediatric Anesthesia with at least one year experience in the specialty required
- Graduate from an accredited Anesthesiology Assistant Program accredited by the Anesthesiology Accreditation Review Council â" An esthesiology Assistant (ARC-AA) or Registered Nurse Anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program (COA) or its predecessor required
Current Florida Advanced Practiced Registered Nurse or AA license
Current Certification from the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists or its predecessor or ARC-AA with biannual re certification required.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required upon hire
