An opportunity exists for a highly experienced law Librarian to join our National Library Services Team.
The Library Services Team is seeking expressions of interest from librarians with significant experience in legal resource training, procurement of legal resources and collection management. The Librarian will be responsible for maintaining and providing a training program to lawyers, assisting with national acquisitions and collection management, and conducting legal research.

About the role
The Library Services Team provides a highly valued service for legal research and resources to the lawyers and officers of the Attorney-General’s Department. This role is based in Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney and will involve delivering high level, customer focused library services. A key part of this role will be to maintain, manage and deliver our Legal Research Training Program and undertake a broad range of legal library activities as part of a team. You will also be expected to efficiently undertake reference enquiries in response to client requests.
In this role you will:
- draw upon your extensive law librarian knowledge and skills to deliver excellent customer focused library services to clients and support the AGD library network.
- manage and deliver a national legal research training program and develop training sessions in response to client requests
- support the national acquisitions manager with procurement and maintenance of subscriptions
- manage reference enquiries in response to client requests in a timely manner
- undertake a broad range of library activities as part of a small, dedicated and professional team.

Please note this role may be offered as ongoing or non-ongoing depending on operational requirements and the successful applicant may be required to travel to Canberra (up to 3 times per year) if they are located in Sydney or Melbourne.
About you
Candidates for this position should have:
- relevant tertiary qualifications in library studies / information management
- formal training qualifications or significant training experience
- experience in acquisitions, and knowledge of government procurement
- demonstrated ability to undertake high level reference and research work in a legal environment
- excellent knowledge of legal materials, maintaining collections and their data
- demonstrated ability in the use of:
- legal resources
- the delivery of in-person and remote training
- library technology and
- data management
- a willingness to take responsibility for tasks and a collaborative approach to cross-team development
- well-developed written and oral communication skills.
