Registered Nurse- PACU

Description: Fleming Island Surgery Center is in need of Registered Nurse- PACU right now, this position will be designated in Florida. Detailed specification about this position opportunity please give attention to these descriptions. Works daily with adult and pediatric patients, Anesthesiologists, CRNAs, Surgeons, O.R. nursing staff, Lab and X-ray personnel, patients' family members, nursing assistant! s and Pre-op/PACU staff.PATIENT CENTERED: 1)Receives patients from Anesthesia and OR, notes times, observes patient, identifies patient by name, checks identification band with name on chart, noting and verbally verifying allergies and obtains report from Anesthesia. Assesses respiratory status and hooks patients up to pulse oximeter, BP machine, O2 and EKG. Monitors and records vital signs and surgical wound for excessive bleeding.2)Checks doctor's order sheet for any stat medication, treatment or lab procedure to be carried out immediately.3)Promotes physical comfort and safety in positioning, medication for pain and restraining patient when necessary.4)Allays fears and anxiety of patient if he/she is awake by staying with him/her, offering reassurance and providing a calm environment.5)Initiates an effective team approach through personal conduct, organization of work and confident, positive, understanding attitude.6)Recognizes and reports any abnormal or adverse changes! in patient's condition to the surgeon or anesthesiologist pro! mptly, and stabilizes the patient according to polices of Fleming Island Surgery Center.7)Administers P.O, IM, S.Q.
and I.V. medications, and monitors I.V. fluids as ordered.8)Documents care/treatment given to patient in PACU I on appropriate form.9)Reviews and reinforces post-procedure orders.10)Assesses patient for discharge (i.e. ability to void, to ambulate and take p.o.
fluids) from PACU I to PACU II area. Notifies appropriate anesthesiologist.11)Transports patient safely from PACU I to PACU II and reports condition and status of patient to nurse (R.N. or L.P.N.) accepting patient.12)Operates complex, specialized equipment according to defined procedures.13)Responds to all CODE BLUE conditions if available to leave the PACU I area. Will receive, monitor and assist in stabilizing the patient in a CODE BLUE until the patient is transferred to another facility.DEPARTMENTAL: 1)Will assist in the Pre-op/PACU II area as needed and cross train, orient new pe! rsonnel and nursing staff to cover or assist in PACU I.2)Submits orders and maintains supplies/linen and equipment utilized within PACU I.3)Notifies Director of Nursing verbally and in writing of medication/narcotic requirements.4)Maintains and accounts for the use of narcotics within PACU I.5)Maintains record keeping and statistics of the PACU I area, as required.6)Maintains crash cart in ready and available for use status.7)Responsible for appraising cleanliness of physical environment and standard equipment and taking steps to solve existing problems prior to admission of the patient.8)Provides direction, leadership and delegates duties to ancillary staff.9)Cleans and maintains furniture and equipment in the department using universal precautions.10)Demonstrates cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment.11)Participates in inservice programs and staff meetings.12)Functions as coordinator of ancillary duties (QA/RM, training and education, etc.) as assigned, ! keeping Director of Nursing informed.13)Maintains a professional appear! ance by dress, manner, and non-verbal communication.14)Performs other related duties as assigned.
