The mission of UROP is to integrate undergraduate students into the research culture of the University by providing opportunities for faculty and students to work together on research projects. We foster collaborations between students, faculty, corporate entities and government agencies to prepare the undergraduate researcher for the challenges of tomorrow and to inspire them for a life-long passion for discovery and inquiry-based learning. By providing professional environments conducive to research advancement and career skills development, UROP provides students with unique opportunities to develop a wide variety of skills that will be useful in any future career or educational endeavors.
Under the general supervision of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Director, provides high quality advising and programming services to guide undergraduate students interested in pursuing faculty-mentored research and creative opportunities in all disciplines. Applies student success advising skills in both individual and group settings to advise undergraduate students on how to identify their research interests and identify a faculty mentor to supervise their research project(s) according to university policies. Designs and conducts workshops for undergraduate students on how to get involved in research and how to communicate effectively in presenting their research in both oral and written format. Develops and implements marketing, outreach, and related activities to promote an undergraduate research community at UCI. Position involves collaboration with other programs and offices in support of undergraduate research and creative activities. Works both as part of a team and independently on program presentation. May supervise student employees.

$25.57 - $35.30 (Hourly Rate) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $25.57 - $45.02 (Hourly Rate)


Required:


3+ years of experience advising students and developing programs in higher education
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Knowledge of learning theories and training models. Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution. Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting. Skills in judgment and decision-making. Problem solving skills. Ability to resolve problems that are complex, unusual, and non-routine. Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students. Develops knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific). Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations. Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings. Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems. Demonstrated strong customer-oriented skills when working with students individually and within groups. Ability to establish, cultivate and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff and students and foster inclusive excellence. Demonstrated ability to work independently and autonomously to set and adjust priorities based on assignments. Must have an acquired understanding of the mission and goals of the organization to meet the department’s objectives. Knowledge and experience in related field to improve efficiencies and work outcomes.

Required to work on nights and weekends on occasion.
