The role will provide trusted guidance, advice and coaching to develop the capability of business group staff in preparing official information requests and official correspondence.
Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of Te Tari Pūreke, Firearms Safety Authority business unit is to enable New Zealand to be a world leader in arms safety through an effective regulatory and administrative approach to the Arms Act and Arms Regulations. Established to lead, operate, and develop investment in modernisation of the firearms system, which will result in a more efficient and effective risk-based licensing system, introduction of comprehensive performance indicators, and shall improve public confidence in the firearms licensing system. The modernisation of the Arms Regulatory System will take every opportunity to prevent harm through transparent, high quality, consistent, legislatively correct, and effective regulatory activities, administration, education, and promotion of compliance with the provisions of the Arms Act and Arms Regulations.
The Regulator will earn trust and confidence by working together in partnership with other policing groups, iwi, the firearms community, wider New Zealand public and other agencies and organisations to achieve collective impact.
To support the delivery of these outcomes the Senior Advisor Ministerial and OIA Support role will effectively manage the official correspondence support on behalf of the Firearms Regulator for NZ Police to ensure relevant standards in terms of quality, accuracy and timeliness are being met.
The role will act as the first Point of Contact for all information requests for the unit and will provide trusted guidance, advice and coaching to develop the capability of business group staff in preparing official information requests and official correspondence.
The role will manage quality control of briefings and reporting to the Minister, ensuring information is fit for purpose and any potential issues are escalated to the appropriate levels.
Takohanga Matua | Key Accountabilities:
- Providing specialist advice on information requests, parliamentary processes and requirements.
- Provides risk management advice when assigning requests to ensure that requests of a high organisational impact nature are managed appropriately, as well as considering risks for wider policing services and/or inter-sector implications.
- Manage quality control of briefings and reporting to the Minister, ensuring information is fit for purpose and any potential issues are escalated to the appropriate levels.
- Ensuring specialist advice and consultation processes and relationships are in place with stakeholders within Police.
- Provides trusted guidance and coaching to develop the capability of business group staff in preparing official information requests.
- Reviewing and enhancing processes and systems to process, monitor and co-ordinate information/documentation
- including with the Ministerial Services team and the Minister’s office.
- Developing and maintaining audit and quality assurance strategies and processes for managing information and requests.
- May from time to time be required to also undertake other research and writing tasks in support of the Business Services Group.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A relevant qualification or related field or equivalent experience relating to Ministerial services.
- Applicants need to be New Zealand Permanent Residents
