RD Medical Affairs Scientist
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the growing Irish RD Medical Affairs team at Pfizer. The role offers an opportunity to work closely with a dynamic and innovative team. The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will include the management of the cardiology portfolio within the RD department and the preparation for the launch of potential gene therapies in the rare neurology space. This hybrid role will require a proportion of time interacting with external experts to further understand the current Irish landscape for RD medicines and include involvement in medical affairs-led projects to support the RD medical affairs strategy planning and execution. There will be the opportunity to work with Pfizer Global and Regional Teams as well as the Irish RD cross functional team. There will also be the opportunity with successful performance in role, to potentially grow into further senior positions.
MAIN REPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
Role Description
- The Medical Affairs Scientist will be responsible to provide in country medical affairs support that is aligned and integrated to the overall strategy for medical affairs within the relevant RD brand operating and clinical plans.
- The MAS leads medical communications in the field, builds enduring relationships with healthcare professionals, academic researchers, and other external stakeholders, and acts as the primary contact in medical and scientific matters.
- Provision of focused relevant information in response to customer needs in order to maintain a therapeutic leadership position and support business needs at national level. Hybrid mix of both face to face and virtual interaction.
- Works cross-functionally with national and international teams to maximize the value of relevant RD portfolio in country.
- Ensures that all activities are executed in accordance with applicable compliance policies and procedures.
- In this role, the RD MAS will report to the Rare Disease and I&I Category Medical Lead.
Main Responsibilities
- Interacts with and develops enduring relationships with key opinion leaders on a national level according to Pfizer franchise.
- Spearheads the generation and dissemination of clinical and scientific information.
- Provides scientific / medical expertise to a therapeutic area or to a given product.
- Dissemination of recent scientific knowledge/data on the relevant portfolio in approved indications.
- Communication of recent scientific knowledge/data on relevant portfolio in off-label indications and on relevant products in development upon request.
- Works and collaborates with medical societies relevant to therapy area.
- Initiates and runs advisory boards, expert and scientific meetings and 1:1 KOL meetings on a local level.
- Identifies data gaps for pipelines assets and actively collaborates with Medical Affairs Data Expert and H&V colleagues in generation of local RWD/RWE for the demonstration of the value of our products and market access.
- Delivers quality scientific presentations at internal and external meetings.
- Review and sign-off to ensure compliance of promotional materials and company sponsored activities such as local promotional meetings and events with local SPCs, Irish legislation, IPHA code of Practice for the Pharmaceutical Industry and company SOPs.
- Contribution to franchise strategy and tactical plan.
- Medical input into assigned brand cross functional team and where necessary into local customer-based marketing initiatives.
- Develop and execute a medical strategy and tactical plan on a national level.
- Communicates customer feedback on product development and life-cycle strategies.
- Franchise budget responsibility.
- Responsibility for annual planning and continuous monthly monitoring of the medical budget including research projects and national projects.
- Works with Medical Information on customer enquiries.
- Provides medical/ scientific support and training for internal staff and vendors.
- Support brand strategies by implementation of local non-interventional studies, development and leverage of ISR opportunities, supporting feasibilities for phase 1-4 studies, interaction with local clinical investigators and other key activities.
REQUIRED SKILL SET
- Medical, Pharmacy or postgraduate level Science degree.
- An in-depth knowledge of the Irish pharmaceutical sector and healthcare environment.
- A good understanding of clinical research, drug development and the ability to critically evaluate clinical study protocols, reports and publications.
- Good knowledge of pharmacovigilance and regulatory legislation and how it impacts the product portfolio.
- Strong presentation, negotiation and networking skills.
- Business acumen.

- Ability to form relationships quickly with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively across cross- functional teams.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
