Position : Electrical Test Apprentice/Assistant

Context
- The Electrical Test department verifies all products which require testing meet the requirements of the applicable specifications. This includes AC, DC, Partial Discharge, Conductor Resistance, Insulation Resistance and any other electrical testing which may be required
- Work 8 hour shifts, five days per week or 12 hour Shifts 3 to 4 days per week
- Shifts rotate weekly or biweekly
- Work overtime as scheduled by plant management
Purpose
- The electrical test apprentice / helper assist the electrical test operator perform electrical tests on conductors to assure all products meet or exceed specified requirements of the industry standards and/or customer
- Train under Electrical Tester until proficient in all aspects of the Electrical Tester/Inspector
Areas of responsibility
- Comply with all safety procedures and regulations; Identify and participate in resolution of workplace hazards; Support an interdependency safety culture.
- Support and seek opportunities to reduce environmental impacts through waste reductions, recycling and reduction of pollution of air, water, soil and resources.
- Is responsible to stage reels in test bay
- Is responsible to open cable ends
- Is responsible to prepare conductors for testing
- Is responsible to secure test ends of cable for transport to next operation
- Is responsible to keep a clean working environment
- Support testing by entering completed test data in the Electrical Test Database
- Is responsible to deliver tested products to the next process of operation
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Comply with Nexans AmerCable 5S standards at all times
- Adheres to all Nexans AmerCable Safety Standards and Safe Work Practices
- Follows and abides by Nexans Code of Ethics and Business Conduct Standards
Expected results
- Support the electrical tests on in-process and final products in a safe and timely manner
- Maintain and improve efficiency of the electrical testing process
- Become an Electrical Tester/Inspector
Required skills and qualifications
- Ability to effectively communicate with other employees, both verbally and in writing, is required
- Good reading comprehension and basic math skills are required
- Ability to work extended hours as needed, including weekends and holidays, is required
- Must be able to work in a non-climate controlled environment
- Must be able to operate a forklift
- Must pass Nexans AmerCable lift truck operator safety course
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Must be able to operate a work station computer
- Must be able to operate a work station computer
- Must be able to physically move material, possibly up to 50 lbs
