Facility Profile:
Twin Cities Hospital is a 65 bed general acute care facility. A full-service medical facility, with the exception of Obstetrics, Twin Cities Hospital offers a physician staffed 24 hour emergency room, EEG/EKG, GE Lightspeed 16-slice CT scanner, GE Senographe DS Digital Mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy machine, intensive care/coronary care unit, nuclear medicine, open MRI, and a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center.

DEPARTMENT PROFILE:
As part of the $10 Million dollar surgery expansion project and opened its doors for business on October 16, 2006. The Operating Room consists of 3 new operating rooms (two l! arge orthopedic rooms), and 2 recently renovated (February, 07! ) minor operating rooms and a cystoscopy room.

The primary goal of the operating room is to provide individualized patient care delivered by highly trained, specialized staff during the actual surgery. Each operating room has a minimum of a registered nurse, scrub technician, and an anesthesiologist. Staffing is adjusted to meet patient needs and the needs of the surgeon. The Operating Room uses an on-call system to insure availability of staff 24 hours a day.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for activities of team members, including staffing and input for performance evaluations. Coordinates new product evaluations and provides input for capital and operating budget. Responsible for nurturing, counseling and le! ading team members to provide efficient, cost-effective patient care. Fosters physician relationships and quality care within service areas. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs: possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for these patient groups.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for the operation of clinical activities within the unit.

2. Responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages and culture of the patients served.

3. Demonstrates advanced level of clinical skills and the ability to support others to achieve the delivery of quality care.

4. Demonstrates interpersonal skills and competency in leadership, supervision and management of staff.

5. Demonstrates knowledge of Quality Improvement and exercises clinical competence in the ability to integrate it into the provisio! n of patient care.

6. Demonstrates knowledge and application o! f the nursing process.

7. Demonstrates skill in planning, organizing and managing personnel resources in a cost effective and productive manner for the operational area of the unit.

8. Supports, maintains and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care through effective use of resources and personnel.

9. Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers.

10. Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patients right to privacy by protecting confidential information.

11. Develop and prepare subordinates and self, educationally, for change and improvement within the nursing unit.

12. Supervise and participates in the evaluation process of employees within the unit.

13. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, qualify of care or the services delivered.

14. Demonstrates kno! wledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.

15. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patients care which results in patient harm.

16. Attends inservice presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.

17. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.

18. Regular, Punctual and dependable attendance.

19. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
Associate Degree, Diploma in Nursing, or BSN required

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
State of Florida RN License required

BLS within 90 days of hire required

ACLS within 90 days of hire required for OR Chg RN and PACU Chg. RN

PALS within 90 days of hire required for PACU Chg. RN

CNOR preferred (for Surgery)

EXPERIE! NCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
Management experience preferred
!
Minimum 2 year previous experience in perioperative setting required

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Reads and writes Basic English with the basic skills necessary to transcribe physicians orders

Knowledge of body substance isolation

Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs

Basic computer skills

CUSTOMERS SERVED:
All employees, staff of Twin Cities Hospital in both clinical and non-clinical departments, including patients/families, physicians, volunteers, agency, contract, students and the community.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is classified as Medium Work which is defined as exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently and 10 pounds constantly.
